PPN (the Property People's Network) have arranged a behind the scenes tour of the BBC's dynamic live broadcasting hub at BBC Broadcasting House on Wednesday, 11 November 2015 starting at 2.00pm.  The BBC’s entertaining and informative guides will bring to life the work of the brand new, state of the art, multimedia broadcasting centre in the heart of London.

Practical completion - the law and practice (a CIArb event)

Architects and surveyors are required by standard forms of contract to determine when practical completion has been reached.  Many other issues flow from this vital decision and yet time and again professionals get it wrong - leading to disputes and complications.  This talk, arranged by the CIArb Thames Valley branch, will try to unravel the essential elements of practical completion from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint.  The presentations will consider:

Dilapidations - a recap of the legal position and the surveyor's role in litigation

In this talk, Lynsey Newman of SA Law will recap on the fundamental principles of assessing a terminal dilapidations claim, considering the basis of quantification, diminution in value and the impact of lease terms and the age and nature of the building on the damages.

She will consider the surveyor’s role in advising the client and acting as an expert, highlighting judicial comment on expert’s conduct. And she will consider the various ways in which settlement of the dilapidations claim can be achieved.
